Double Life

Author: The Unrequited Dream
There she is
That girl, you see?
She's always smiling,
Always happy;
What does she find
To be so happy about?
When the rest of us
Live in a shadow of worry and doubt?
If you wonder this, then her disguise
Is working,
For as you walk by
And she offers a smile,
Deep inside, her emotions are jerking.
She's as lonely and sad
As any of us,
But she puts asside her worries,
Doesn't make a fuss.
For if she did,
Who would she go to?
There's not really anyone that understands HER,
No one would know what to do;
She stands as a rock, someone to come to,
A lot of people trust her.
But if she were to need a shoulder to cry on,
Who would be there to come to her rescue?
She can find comfort in the embrace of a friend,
Feeling that if
She ever lets go,
That she may come to an end.
She's wary of people, selective of friends,
Lest they jest, abuse, or mistreat her,
These kinds of things have happened before,
And never will she let them happen again.
Sometimes someone will notice a hint of sadness in her eyes,
An emotional wall she built herself
Comes to her aid and reminds her to
Put back on her disguise.
At night when she's alone and sleep she cannot get,
She lets her music play
Happy, carefree melodies
She can't quite harmonize with yet.
They talk of love,
A thing she's felt before,
But as of late,
Knows not the meaning of.
But someday, she will be free
Of the pain, heartache, and misery,
In fact, eventually all of us will,
Even you... even me.

The Unrequited Dream (207.144.229.164) -- Tuesday, June 14 2005, 09:53 pm Wow, thank you so much, Terrie... I'm honored that you connected with this poem. I wrote this my first year of high school, and when I showed some of my friends, they thought it could've been written about themselves! It's hard after you've lost someone to get back to living, yes, and I think the death of my uncle the year before inspired some of the feelings I had when I wrote this. But thank you for commenting, it really means a lot. :) |
The Unrequited Dream (207.144.229.164) -- Tuesday, June 14 2005, 09:55 pm I'm glad you could identify with this poem. We all have an inner self that no one else can see, or an inner self that we hide from the world. Thank you for reading and commenting, it means a lot. :) |
