as i gathered ingredients
to bake a simple apple pie
i started comparin' it to my simple life

i thought about the basic
ingredients of life

i thought
if i was to leave the sugar out
and picked out tarty, sour apples
the pie will taste very bitter
just as my life

if i was to allow lifes small disappointments
to rule my life
and leave out the most important
ingredients out such as
a big quantity of love
my life would be lonely and bitter too

i started thinkin' how
love, peace, joy,
laughter, happiness, trust,
patience, understandin'
and even includin' God in my life

make and rule a big part in my life
as sugar, flour, eggs, bakin' soda
and a touch of my love
are to bakin'
even a simple pie

it helps me understand
that my thoughts, actions and
my not believing.
play the biggest part
in how i'm livin'

wow, i caint believe
i'm comparin'
my simple life
to bakin' a simple apple pie

yes i'll admit
sometimes i find it difficult
to decide what i'm missin'?
just as if i was to forget
to add a touch of salt
to an apple pie

like my heart and soul,
what i want and desire
to taste the things in life
is not always what i need

but it may be
what i am missin'

i watch my life unfold
for the better and for the worse
when ever i say the wrong things
or make a simple mistake

all imaginable thoughts
locked away in my heart
as i cling to my soul
i know will be there
when i figure out
what it is that i am missin'

as sufficient as my life has been
i feel totally relaxed
to be the simple person that i am
to live a happy, fullfilled
simple life
as simple as an apple pie
