A Day At The Sea-side
6 July, 2005
Author: Capricorn
Squeals resound across
the sun-scorched bay
-- excited children.
Canvas chairs crammed closely;
bodies toasting.
I inhale mingled aromas --
salty air tinged with pungent seaweed,
lotions spread on virgin skin
and wafts of café’s cooking .
Squalling seagulls startle --
swooping to scavenge
tasty morsels from the ground.
A plump one tries to grab
the dripping ice, grasped tightly,
in a toddler’s sticky hand.
The boy screams, throws it down
demanding another.
The gulls go wild, zooming
on this opportune buffet,
barking dogs rush
frightening the flock away,
then lick the flavoured sand
-- a tasty treat.
I am an explorer
wandering barefoot,
gritty sand between my toes,
I criss-cross sand-dunes,
gathering motley shells.
As froth-tipped waves
engulf the sand, a cool balm
of surf embraces swollen feet.
I tread sea-weed while
ocean creatures tickle toes
-- tides claim their realm,
its rhythmic humming soothes;
stresses float far away.
Neptune whispers words of welcome;
I imbibe the lazy atmosphere.
Soon I’ll be home to sink again
into mundane routines
-- until my next day off.

Martin Vann (63.25.185.230) -- Thursday, July 7 2005, 07:02 pm Cap, I know how you feel and share the pleasures of the soul. Then the cell phone rings, have it clipped to my bathing suit, so much for freedom. Still I stick my toes into the sand and go back, to my sea-shore room of hell and return the call. Still I feel, Capricorn sand, between, my executive toes. Thanks, Cap Hope you are safe, alkeda seems to reach every beach. |
