My Best Friend

He had always been my best friend since we were two years old,
Then one day after high school graduation. he disappeared
Almost one year later he came home wearing Dress-Blues
Said sorry friend didn't know if I had what it would take so
I didn't tell you that I choose to join the Marine Corps after high school
He looked so fine and he stood so tall in his dress blues Marine Uniform
I cried, he put his arms around me said he was headed over-seas,
Just home on leave. We went to the root-beer stand had a hamburger
He reaches over said my name it damn near broke my heart so many years
We had been together, from roller skates, to rock & roll, he was always there
He took care of me, when my chest showed I was growing up he didn't laugh
He was always there for me, since we were both two years old all the years
Now I hold his mother's hand as they play Taps, my Marine has come home
They fire all those shots into the wind, then give his mom, a flag, she cries
I have to be strong, for if I'm not I'll die right here loving my friend, all the
Memories, we shared come over me now we all let go he came home.
