My heart ripped open
with the loss of such a love
The funeral now passed
his death is true
Joe's in heaven with the angels now
only a heartbeat away he lives
The boy who changed my life is gone
but the memories reside in my dreams
until the light of morning dawns

------- Author's Notes -------

I know that if Joe were reading this poem, he'd tell me he didn't get it, but he'd hope that I'd explain it to him. So here's your explanation Joe:
I loved you with all my heart and you were a big part of my everyday life, because I wouldn't have been the same person, nor do I think I'd even be here today if it wasn't for you, and of course Kari.
Your funeral's come and gone, and as much as I didn't want to believe it, you are gone. I never got to know you when you loved God so much, but I know you're exactly where you're supposed to be.
I'm only a heartbeat away from you. But I would never stop that beat just to be close to you again, because I know it's easier talking to you now than ever before. I may not always get a response, but I know you're listening.
You made me see that love can happen between any two people no matter how different they are. I haven't forgotten anything we went through, nor do I ever plan on it. I loved you then, I love you now, You'll forever be in my heart Joe.
