Hold My Head High
1 September, 2005
Author: Devilyangelic
Unfaltered courage pulled me through,
all of those times when no other knew.
That beneath my smile I was shielding a broken heart,
as along with my naivety it was torn apart.
Forced to grow up way too fast,
kissing goodbye to my childhood as it faded into my past.
My role now the mediator between my mam and dad,
believed I mustn't have deserved the love I never had.
Reached out once but from then was profusely rejected,
wanting so much to not feel neglected.
My pleas it would seem fell on blissfully deaf ears,
as I learnt what it was to wipe away my own tears.
Older in mind than either one,
but remained young at heart so unsure what I'd done?
That was so worthy of being treated like this,
cruelly denied a hug or a kiss?
Pulling myself through as I walk this life alone,
hard to believe just how much I have grown.
The child in me still remains,
but loving myself has unlocked these chains.
That I thought would keep me forever bound,
I'll never understand why on the barrier of love they stood their ground?
But I won't let it break me nor will my love wither and die,
for I know in my heart I have the strength to HOLD MY HEAD HIGH!!!
