Shooting Star
2 September, 2005
Author: Ben Laney
Playing Russian roulette
with a pistol for fun
When the bullet struck his chest
Randell's face looked so stunned
He walked out of the basement
slowly climbed up the stairs
Scared eyes looking straight ahead
he collapsed in a chair
Who's finger pulled the trigger
Who shot the shooting star
Do you feel any bigger
Will you carry the scar
Who's finger pulled the trigger
Tell me how high you are
Who's finger pulled the trigger
Who shot the shooting star
Someone's voice cried loud
Hurry call 911!
But Randell's time ran out
before the call was done
There in the confusion
life's blood poured to the floor
And nothin' they were doin'
would bring him back no more
Now I hear the howling
cold wind in the alley
Where dirty newspapers
and garbage are blowing
and I hate ev'rything
that keeps turning ugly
And I hate ev'rything
in this mean dark city
Who's finger pulled the trigger
Who shot the shooting star
Do you feel any bigger
Will you carry the scar
Who's finger pulled the trigger
Tell me how high you are
Who's finger pulled the trigger
Who shot the shooting star
Who shot the shooting star
------- Author's Notes -------
This is a true to life story. "Randell" (not his real name) was a friend I knew in high school. The finger that pulled the trigger was one of mine and Randell's "buds". It's odd, but I don't remember who fired the shot that killed Randell. I guess I've blocked that part out. I will never forget Randell, however. He was a bright, talented musician with a friendly smile. This I dedicate to all whom have lost a friend or loved one through the senseless acts of another. I miss Randell still. |
