Innerglow

Amidst my pain, heartache and fear,
there has always been one thing so clear.
That to dim my true colours though they tried profusely,
in the belief that with their ways they could confuse me.

Paling in comparison to the colours of I,
they fade into the background as I light up the sky.
Refusing their only pleasure to stunt my growth,
leaving them far behind as at my own pace I move forth.

Absolution no more a necessity,
for I know every day I've gave the best of me.
I need not question myself or my ways,
as more than long enough I've lived in their maze.

Permitting them to have a crack at breaking me,
but their attempts have only succeeded in making me.
Stronger than they dared to dream,
as through their failures my success will endeavour to gleam.

Leaving them under no illusion that they'll never win,
for as hard as they try my colours they'll never dim.
Through time within me they've became etched and engraved,
giving me the peace of mind and acceptance I've always craved.

My world once a canvas nothing but a sheet of white,
but the colours I hold make it shine so bright.
Fearless now to let my guard go,
my own light fills me tonight with an INNERGLOW!!
