Avid To Again Try

Slender hands reach forth to take,
a solitary brick that proves hard to break.
Defiantly I refuse to refrain,
taking down this fortress created by my own pain.
Painfully aware that it won't just crumble away,
as just like Rome this wasn't built in a day.
I want to smash it to smithereens,
but I understand what waiting means.
So I bide my time as each brick I remove,
knowing in my heart I've got nothing to prove.
One by one I watch them fall,
what once was a fortress is now a small wall.
Chipping away with a chisel I've found,
I find my smile as my hurt falls to the ground.
No longer does it tower so high I cannot see,
as with time and patience it lies beneath me.
To reach this destination has taken some time,
as I hop over what was once to high to climb.
Smiling inside as I can now start,
to let others in and open up my heart.
A splayed hand across my heart I find,
coaxing it away as with my other around me it becomes entwined.
In its corner what is this I espy?
Is it really a changed me AVID TO AGAIN TRY?!?!
