Tonight
19 September, 2005
Author: Terrie*
I went to the river
Right below the rapids
Just the other night
my kids went away for the weekend
and i was feelin' all alone
not quite dressed for fishin'
still wearin' my scrubs
With one lonely fishin’ pole in one hand
A small tub of bait in the other
The three men that were there
remembered, whom I was
they seem to know the reason for my bein' there
They greeted me pleasantly with a smile
a kiss and a warm embrace and let me be
as i apologized for the tears that lived in my eyes
i felt them relive
the last time I was there
When a life was lost and another was spared
Tonight I try to touch a part of me
That was placed there that day
a part of me that stands upon that rock
lookin' into the shore
where the moon seems to let out her warm glow
as i see my soul
standin' wavin' to the memories that float on by
where a part of me was spread along
This rock where I sit
A part of my memories
Of a friend i loved so much
he touched so many life’s
i never wanted to admit it, but..
the life's he touched included me
Tonight, I’ll see if I get a bite
If not it wouldn’t matter
Cause just sittin’ here
Reminiscin’ the yesterdays mean so much
a lovely feelin' of what used to be
Oddly a bite was at hand
I witnessed it jump up
as if to give me a glance
swam around ,tickled my toes
With his tail and left
When my friend Don
in his search found me
and joined me where I sat
He knew what I felt
and what I was goin’ through
he cancelled yet another flight
he didn't want me to live another
day makin' lonely memories
he knows what it's like to be alone
He came up to me , opened up his arms
Held me in his embrace till the sun came up
As we both walked away
At the start of a brand new day
I felt the peace in my heart
Knowin’ where our other friend has gone
and that God too opened up his arms
