Through the iron bars
she could see the stars
Shining brightly in the sky
bringing a tear to her eye.

She wishes she could be there,
where people are bold and fair.
But instead she's stuck down below,
where people are cruel and shallow.

Desperately she tries,
looking through teary eyes,
to get free of the dark,
and in the world make her mark.

She wants to be remembered,
as a burning ember,
to be known
away from this home.

She wants to be free,
live by the sea,
but instead,
she forgets to look ahead.

Trying to do her best,
only making less.
She tried to get by,
forgetting the stars in the sky.

She tried to accomplish
all that others wish.
but only got by
with a tear in her eye.

She was called a fool,
on the first days of school.
She was remembered,
but not as a burning ember.

She was known,
away from her home.
The quiet child,
so silent and mild.

She changed all her ways,
averting from the sun rays.
Turning back to her dark,
determined to make her mark.

She closed her teary eyes,
after looking at the skys,
looking so very far,
at many a beloved star.

She felt a rush,
couldn't hear much.
the only thing I remember the doctors said,
was that she was dead.
