Created Equal
19 October, 2005
Author: Mark Spencer
Do you feel like we’re all equal,
From beggar to aristocrat?
Are folks who try to stay in shape,
Like those who let themselves get fat?
The man who drives the Mercedes,
And the man in the beat up Ford,
Can you even compare the two?
Do they deserve the same reward?
The one who becomes president,
Can’t be equal to the waiter.
The latter is just a servant;
The president must be greater.
And compared to a movie star,
Is a gardener in their class?
While they’re off signing autographs,
He’s the one left cutting their grass.
The colonel is more important
Than soldiers under his command.
Fighting men are expendable,
Ready to die upon demand.
And why should beautiful people
Have to suffer to look upon
Some unrefined ugly duckling,
Instead of a beautiful swan?
What gave us our equality,
When distinctions are so diverse?
Do you think it was a mistake?
Should it be treated like a curse?
It was God who made us equal,
He gave us each the right to choose.
We can have our God given rights,
A gift we may also refuse.
But if we turn our backs on God,
Where do you think that choice will lead?
Will the world be better for it,
If such a campaign should succeed?
It is we who make distinctions,
Who is better than another.
We decide who’s more important,
Between a man and his brother.
It is the law of the jungle,
That chooses who remains alive.
People without God given rights,
Have no choice whether they survive.
And like it is in the jungle,
They’ll hunt in packs for hapless prey.
Working their way down the food chain,
Searching for those who won’t obey.
Man strives for power and glory,
The wealth of material gain.
And whenever he achieves it,
Is that all he seeks to obtain?
The beautiful, rich and famous,
Are not always shallow or vain.
But most don’t even notice you,
Unless they’ve got something to gain.
Do you want class separation,
Would you like prejudice to win?
Man proclaims who is important,
Where do you think we would be then?
We’re all eighty percent water,
From peasants to princes to knights.
Do you really think that matters,
If we lose our God given rights?
With God, goes your independence,
For some, that will be a surprise.
In the Lord’s sight, we are the same,
Created equal in His eyes.

Megan (67.124.91.241) -- Sunday, October 23 2005, 12:09 am I know about those distinctions. My family was dirt poor. Growing up, I got to see how my father got treated. But on Sunday, he was equal to everyone else in that church. Because God made him that way. I really liked this one. |
Mark Spencer (68.120.199.68) -- Saturday, October 29 2005, 01:45 pm Distinctions like these are really up to us Megan. People are only great if you say they are. Strip us of everything we have and what do you get? A bunch of naked animals, fighting over fig leaves and caves. And the distinctions? The one with the biggest club is usually the greatest. The problem is, we never really left the caves, and we’re still fighting over who has the biggest club. |
