Gone, But Never Forgotten 2
21 December, 2005

(Co-written with Meridian)

I beg along the edge of my sight
To hold me strong at this ledge in my life
I set all the cautions and nonsense aside
And watch the thoughts of my conscience unwind
A chill begins to spin up my spine
As I tear down the cage I've built up inside
Emotion escapes and I'm feeling alive,
As I stare at the sky with the glare of the moon off of my eyes

This is like a before and after, a then and now
From how I used to feel up to how I’m feeling now
See readers that was earlier and this is later
The pain is no longer sharp; the pain is no longer greater.
That was back in the day; today I have peace in my mind
If you take a look at my face, peace is what you’ll find
I got peace all the time. I’m somewhat appeased.
I don’t have to wait up for a Commander, I’m already at ease

I didn’t know how to cope with the downfall of a lost love
He’ll never be forgotten, because he’s all I think of
But how do you carry on, knowing a gentle soul has just died?
Leave it up to God and place all of your worries aside
Leave all your burdens at the altar; cast all your cares
Don’t pick them back up again, just leave them there
As long as I have a photograph or a memory of my granddad
I can cry tears of happiness, recalling the bond we once had

He’ll always be remembered, he’ll never be ancient history
Nobody knows when death will come knocking, death is such a mystery
It has no arranged time, it shows no favoritism
Regardless of your religious beliefs, heck you could be into Buddhism
No matter how young or old, age is no exception
If you take death lightly, it’s time you change your perception
I could be submitting this poem as we speak and be gone the next day
For those that want to die in their youth, watch what you say

Once you’re gone, you’re gone. There is no resurrection.
Our flesh will be no more. All warmth will leave our complexions.
If you seen the dead come back to life, then be quick to give me correction
There’s only one who ascended and He masters at perfection
I’m just thankful that the majority of my family is still breathing
To even think of a loved one sent to the morgue for freezing
Makes me come to the realization that this is it, that this is our only shot
To make our lives worth living and to give life all we got
