The Alamo -sonnet-
6 March, 2006
Author: Mark Spencer
I and my comrades raise our glasses high,
As we drown our fears of the coming fight.
We appear as though unafraid to die,
Yet sleep will elude each of us this night.
An army is camped just beyond our gate,
And they shall storm us at morning’s first light.
We now realize, help will come too late,
And on the morrow, we shall lose this fight.
We have resisted, as honor is due;
Men of a nation that will not forget.
These lives, we gladly sacrifice for you,
It is an accord we do not regret.
This is our moment; history will show,
And all shall remember the Alamo.
