Bonsai
20 March, 2006
Author: Mike
Cutting and pruning this delicate shrub.
Oh, what a fine talent.
What a fine art to behold.
Shape and mold its outstretched branches.
Make it look how you want it to.
Amazing. Fantastic.
Almost like a lion tamer.
Cracking your whip at every oddity.
Train your tree to bend over backwards to suit your vision.
Teach it to conform to your expectations.
Force it to grow, even to be just another clone.
Punish it with your rusted scissor blades.
------- Author's Notes -------
Was sitting in Sociology doodling nonsense onto paper, when I though of Karate Kid. I had images of Mr. Miyagi (sp?) and his bonsai tree.. Made me think of this poem. |

Emma (86.1.48.222) -- Wednesday, March 29 2006, 10:53 pm Is this like scraping some kind of design in your arm (cutting), like the bonsai tree.. moulding it etc. If it is, it's really nicely put into that metaphor. |
Mike (62.31.46.154) -- Wednesday, April 12 2006, 11:26 pm It sort of started out that way, but I suppose it can be seen as going against the rules of society? They try to mold you into who they want you to be, hence the cutting and pruning. It's a mix of both, I suppose. |
