Your Soul Mate
24 June, 2006
Author: Mark Spencer
Ours was a covenant,
Sanctified by the Lord.
‘Tis a sacred promise,
That cannot be ignored.
An oath we freely made,
Has bound us to our fate.
God joined us together,
For I am your soul mate.
You’ve chosen to move on,
But your heart can’t let go.
Attempts to forget me,
Just make the feelings grow.
What God joined together,
No man can separate.
Now until forever,
I shall be your soul mate.
And though you’ve made the choice,
That we remain apart,
The one who wins your hand,
Shall never win your heart.
For time grants no solace,
This burden shall not ease.
You’ll see me in your dreams,
Hear my name on the breeze.
This yoke can’t be lifted,
Your feelings won’t abate.
I’ve become part of you,
For I am your soul mate.
You’ll walk this path alone,
No matter who loves you.
You can’t return his love,
Though he may need you to.
And when your journey ends,
Death shall not set you free.
The last name on your lips
Will still belong to me.
And then, in reflection,
You shall ponder your fate,
How you let someone else
Grow old with your soul mate.
