Fly Away
5 July, 2006
Author: Catyrose
More often than not the bird returns to the cage
Confining herself within these gilded bars
Refusing to fly, to spread her wings
Restricted to the familiar
Inhibited by societies whims
A visionary, she was meant to be
Yet rules and regulations
Dictates and doctrines
Have made her small
Living in fear of judgment
Of others in her midst
No moments of bliss
Allowed
One morning with nothing to lose
Age is upon her
She’s discovered
She has earned the right to choose
The direction of her life
Willing to accept the cost
Before she breathes her last breath
And all is lost
Flinging open the bars of her safe and self-imposed prison
She smiles brightly at the possibilities
An open heart
An open mind
Living each day as if it was her very last
No longer haunted by the ghosts of her past
Embracing life
She flies off on the wings of the butterfly she once was
Before she allowed them to clip her wings
And she settled for a life so ordinary
Watch her as she bravely floats off into new and uncharted territory
