Damaged Goods

Damaged goods
Torn and tattered
Broken beyond repair
It all happened long ago
Before I ever saw your face
You sparked an ember lying dormant deep down inside
Your kiss was the breath of life
In your arms I felt such comfort there
I so wanted to believe you truly cared
Entangled in the web of others wrongdoings
Other faces, other places from the past
Holding me bound
Strangling the love and life out of me
Oh, how I wish I could be set free
Only once I trusted
I built my life, my world around him
Bore his children
Loved him through the hard times
Stood firmly by his side
He knew the fine print of my life, the minute details,
He knew I'd never recover if he strayed
Knowing as he did the price I had already paid
Only to be let down
Left, Alone
A dream shattered
A heart left in tatters
You'd think after decade upon decade this old heart would have healed
A softer more tender side would have been revealed
Try as I might
Yearning for a love so true
All the while recoiling from love's touch
You walked into my life
You held me close for a time
I loved you the best I could
I gave you my heart, that is, all that remained
Don't ever doubt my love was true
But I am:
Damaged goods
Torn and tattered
Broken beyond repair
It all happened so long ago
Before I ever saw your face

What someone else does, that is wrong, and hurtful,is no reflection of your worth. You are NOT damaged goods. What you are is a treasure, overlooked, and unappreciated. You deserve only the best, Caty. It's out there. Let it come to you. |
