Noah's Ark
1 December, 2006
Author: Mark Spencer
A question preyed upon my mind
Not easily explained.
The pages of the Bible had
No solution contained.
There was, seemingly, no answer;
It left me in the dark.
How could so many animals,
Have fit on Noah’s Ark?
There’s over two hundred primates,
And thirty six felines.
At least two different elephants,
And thirty four canines.
With so many different species,
Some, anything but small,
It would be impossible for
Noah to save them all.
Evidence points to a deluge,
Many myths do as well,
Like the story of Gilgamesh,
It’s quite a tale to tell.
There are many different cultures,
Telling similar tales,
If it weren’t true, why would they share,
Such specific details?
How could the Hopi Indians
Trade myths with the Hebrews?
Without the means to cross the sea,
How could they share the news?
We must explain one thing to see
The possibilities.
For Noah’s Ark remains one of
Our greatest mysteries.
Think of it scientifically,
You’ll find a solution.
To explain all those animals,
Look to evolution.
I thought science and religion,
Were incompatible.
If God created everything;
It might be plausible.
Through sympatric speciation
One species becomes two.
It’s a form of evolution
That has been proven true.
You don’t need to save each species,
Just their progenitor.
If evolution does the rest,
Why bother taking more?
Life adapts to environment,
Which takes generations.
A God given mechanism,
As old as Creation.
If this mystery confounds you,
And leaves you in the dark,
Evolution holds the answer,
To explain Noah’s Ark.
