Men Aren't Supposed To Cry
1 February, 2007

vinebar

When I hear a pretty song
a tear comes to my eye,
I wish it didn't happen
men aren't supposed to cry.

I hope nobody's watching.
Will anybody see?
I'd just die if others knew,
what's happening to me.

It comes from deep within
far out of my control,
I wish it didn't happen,
I know it's from my soul.

Is it a sign of weakness
if tears stream down my face
when together we stand and sing,
the hymn "Amazing Grace"?

A handkerchief is what I need
then no one can see,
how weak a man I really am
though I don't want to be.

I'd ask the Lord to make me hard
to make a man of me,
but with a tear upon His face,
what would His answer be?

There are all kinds of tears.

I used to worry when I couldn't maintain dry eyes during a musical performance. What really wipes me out is to hear someone quite young making really beautiful music. Now, I wouldn't miss it for anything. I no longer worry about it. My guess is that you don't cry for selfish reasons.
I do believe that men are less vocal than women in these situations. That makes perfect sense to me.

It's a great poem. Keep 'em coming. Bip

feel proud

I like the way you express your feelings. To most tears are a sign that you are a kind sensitive person.Tears from a man or a woman is a kind warm compassionate person .Tears aren't a sign of weakness, they are a sign of strength in character. Men should show more emotions to be a strong.complete person.

All kinds of tears

Bipe..I see some men that can stand and talk in front of an audiance about some of the saddest things. I would have to drink a fifth of Scotch
to do it. I respect that..

expressing feelings

Barb..Thanks...I do OK on paper, but when it comes to being in front of a lot of people I choke..It's OK if we keep it lighthearted or business though. I know my boundries..

Standing and speaking

After a fifth of Scotch I couldn't even stand, much less talk.
I can barely speak to an audience, even on happy subjects, but I can really understand, and agree with what you are saying.
