Rope

Before I call someone my friend,
I will give them some rope.
But understand, what I’ve got planned,
Will be an uphill slope.
If you’re sincere, it won’t take long,
To know the truth from lies.
But if it’s bull, you’ll try to pull
The wool over my eyes.
If there's no cause to trust your word,
Then why should I trust you.
You’re a goner without honor,
You wouldn’t have a clue.
You’ve only got one thing in life
That no one else can steal.
One grand award, sent from the Lord,
The only thing that’s real.
Your life, your home, your family,
Could vanish in a flash.
Your liberty, and property,
Could all be turned to ash.
Integrity is all you have,
The grace that fills your cup.
It can’t be lost, at any cost,
Unless you give it up.
Your actions will expose the truth,
No matter what you plan.
I hear you talk, but can you walk
The path you say you can?
The evidence will testify
To who you really are.
It will reveal what isn’t real,
Before you go too far.
Your word defines your character,
In everything you do.
If there’s a dearth in your word’s worth;
The same is true of you.
But if your honor should be lost,
You really are a dope.
There’s no excuse to tie a noose,
When God supplies the rope.
