Underestimated Area
14 February, 2007

People will say -
Why go down there ?
way down the expressway -
the dividing line of those
who have and those who don't.
I drifted first to the farmers market -
walked along Notre Dame street -
slowly - looking for interesting
shadows and colours
and peoples energys.
I found myself on a street
that I had never been on -
house after house
after colour after
amazing detail -
I snapped away -
alone -
deserted street -
I imagined eyes peering out
of windows -
curtains opening slowly -
people wondering
with some paranoia what
I was doing ?
Why I was taking pictures
of their front doors ??
I kept walking and clicking -
savouring my adventure -
in the briskness of the february afternoon.
There was nothing poor about
this street of
wild colour,
huge stone homes,
winding staircases
that were every bit as interesting and
Montreal as the Plateau Mount Royal,
now the trendy in place to be -
to live -
to party - to hang out in -
to photograph.
Waiting for the bus -
a police car slowly approached me.
I resembled a woman they are looking for.
Have a nice day they said -
Yes, it was an exceptionally nice day !!!
