Burnt But Not Broken
16 February, 2007
Author: Tanean Schaller
To burn, to cut, anything to scar the external heals the internal.
Numb, depicting nothing is more painful then fire.
To bleed less painful then tears.
You wouldn’t know, you can’t understand…
But you look at me with bandages on my hands.
You judge the unknowing and unjustifiable criticize,
you have no idea… you can’t even look me in the eyes.
Walk away that is fine, I will not turn to see you leave.
Leave my side, be gone…
God forbid you admit you were wrong.
I don’t see black, I can’t see the red,
I feel nothing again when I finally rest my head.
I will sleep for a while, soon to awake,
the feeling restores, my heart healed the break.
I will be fine, so go ahead walk away.
Tomorrow is over… I won’t hurt today.
------- Author's Notes -------
I wrote this poem after listening to a song pertaining to "cutting" which is a common form a teenage self mutilation and escape from emotional or physical pain and trauma. This is one poem of two that I have written with regard to that topic. |
