Once In A While, Remember Me...

I would like to be remembered...
We all would like to be remembered;
it is just something that we hope will happen
after we have passed away.
We will no longer exist,
physically, mentally, emotionally....
we will just be gone.
We just want to be remembered
so that we're not gone completely.
We all hope that we will be remembered,
and, selfishly, I suppose,
I hope to be remembered on days
other than holidays, or Father's Day,
or anniversaries -
I want to be remembered at odd times,
for no particular reason
other than that I am missed,
and perhaps thought kindly of.
Of course,
I won't know if I am remembered or not,
or the value or intent of that memory,
but I might hope, might I not,
that the memory is good
for the one remembering.
That is all that I ask.
It is all that I can dream of now,
while I am still above the earth.
And while I know that I will have no say
in whether or not I am remembered,
or the way in which the memory happens,
yet will I end my days yearning for that
special thing, the remembering,
like a lover who has yet to taste the kiss.
Think of me,
remember me,
and be kind in doing both.
I pray that my best attempts
at being worthy
of being remembered
were sufficient
to insure a long second life
in your memories.

I love you, regardless...
