Dark Skinned Boy
5 July, 2007
Author: Francis Duggan
Where you live the air is cleaner and no smoke pollute the sky
And you're happy and contented young and happy dark skinned boy
You don't know yet of thing called evil every day a new surprise
And all you see are things of beauty through your innocent brown eyes.
Every day there's something different each day something new you see
Frightened lizard called goanna for safety climb up gum tree
And you hear the wild dog howling in the long grass somewhere near
And you run to tell your daddy 'that's the dingo son you hear'
You love talking to your grand da grand da with the hair of snow
Tell you stories of the Dreamtime of the centuries ago
How the magpie got her colours how the eagle soar so high
Why the roo must keep on hopping why the emu cannot fly.
And the stories grand da tell you you'll tell your grandson one day
Why the mopoke and the frogmouth from the sun's lamp hide away
Why the wombat goes on digging why glow worm in darkness shines
Why the parrot nest in tree hole how echidna got her spines.
Young and handsome dark skinned fellow you are happy and carefree
And every day there's something different something new to learn and see
Now it's Spring the birds are nesting and every day a new surprise
And all you see is love and beauty through those innocent brown eyes.
