I Still Recall The News From Dallas
10 August, 2007
Author: Francis Duggan
I recall the day that J.F.K died in Dallas
A painless death from a bullet to the head
We listened to the radio in stunned silence
To the tragic news 'the U S President is dead'.
Shortly prior to that president Kennedy had been in Ireland
Where in Dublin he addressed the Irish Dail
And thousands lined the streets for one glimpse of him
And the memory to this day they still recall.
Some people see him as a god or greater
But 'twas a man who died in Dallas in the Fall
And despite the world media coverage and publicity
His end proved he was human after all.
His assassin Lee Harvey Oswald was gunned down by Jack Ruby
And Oswald's death 'twas said painful and slow
And human life in Dallas taken cheaply
In what seemed like a cheap wild western show.
I did not mourn for John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Who died in Dallas all those years ago
For how could I mourn for one who was a stranger
For one I'd heard of but I did not know?.
I still recall the news from Dallas Texas
Of the death of President John F Kennedy
And the date is in the history books forever
Of November the twenty third in sixty three.
