Luke -
You have been burned by the fires of life;
like glass or iron or steel is strengthened by fire,
so you have been also.
I was unable to protect you,
and there are reasons you will never understand,
I hope,
that makes that single fact bother me
far more than I can stand.
What makes it easier to bear, for me,
is that you have grown from this experience.
You are stronger now because of it,
and you have won out,
over all the odds that said you wouldn't.
You have fought your way back from the worst
that could be thrown at you in a relationship,
and you have found at the end of the run
that prize which is so pure, so beautiful,
and so enduring, so worthwhile.
It took some time,
and it took a lot of pain for you,
for me, for all of us...
but I smile now,
as I look at you,
as I think of you,
as I see you walking your trail today.
Because you have found that which you never truly had before -
you have found your love.
You have found the one you were meant to stand with.
She has a beautiful, shy smile,
she has fire in her eyes,
strength in her soul,
determination in her mind,
and your best interests in her heart.
You are hand in hand with each other.
You will be all right now.
You are where you belong.
She will never make you cry.
She will never make you regret.
And I am happy for you now.
The two of you, together,
are an unbeatable team.
I can't imagine anything nicer for you,
than she is.
Always be worthy of her, and you'll be fine.

Beautiful story, beautifully told.

That's the kind we all need more of. Especially the happy ending. I'm happy for your son Luke, and for his bride, (or bride to be.)
