Silent Ripples
5 December, 2007
Author: Christian V
I’ll stand out by the river
the sun burning the back
of my neck
the wind calling through
the trees
laughing with each other over
random conversations
of the forest news
down the river line I’ll walk
stopping occasionally at the
spots where you and me
used to talk
reminiscing about us
many years ago
the first kiss
first touch
the first moment you
met me
saying I was the
most abnormal
but in a cute kind of way
Sitting down
I always see lonely
stones on the ground
untouched, unloved
underneath the bright
sky afternoon
but I give them affection
Each day
they love to be skipped
all of them having a competition
of who can get the furthest
But what they don’t know
is what they bring back to me
seeing their ripples across
the water
growing bigger and wider
with each wave till they cease
it reminds me
of why I can never
forget you
The waves can grow away
from me
carrying away your memories
but all I have to do is skip
another stone
and the moments come back
as if nothing ever changed
Even with you gone
looking over me
you still laugh with me
I feel your hugs
your skin
your kiss
all in the smoothest
stone that I can pick up
So even when the
water splashes
the ripples never make a sound
giving me a chance to remember
you once more
And so I’ll return tomorrow
there’s still more stones
there’s still more memories
to skip for
