When We Dance
5 December, 2007
Author: Christian V
The room was silent
the music just a soft
stillness in the background
the people mere shadows
disappearing as we gazed at each other
You wore that dress
that midnight blue dress
that gleamed underneath
the moonlight when we walked
out of the restaurant
you said I was handsome
even though I felt like a
misplaced penguin
I would waddle when I walked
making you laugh with
every step I took
it was nothing less than
TV worthy
Going into the lobby of the hotel
everyone stared
silent whispers scattering like wildfire
I heard one young woman say how
she wished she hand your dress
a beautiful dress it was
others saying you should of
chose some one else
I don’t think you heard that one
you were still smiling
or maybe that’s what made you smile
It was several hours in and still
several hours to go
my hands on your waist
your head on my chest
we never stopped
whether it was fast or slow
we couldn’t stop
not wanting to miss one song
one beat or rhythm
I could feel the small shivers
move down your back
moving my hands
reading your body speaking to me
everyone seemed to fade away
only you, me and the music
throwing us into pure ecstasy
getting high off our on happiness
my sweat dripped to your shoulders
my shirt turning from intense red to
a deep burgundy
yet you never moved
you only seemed to move closer
grasping my hands tighter never
letting go no matter how much time passed
When the music stopped
the lights came on
we looked at each other
everything around us coming
back to life
we breathed
slightly out of breath
I would brush your hair out of
your moist face
you smiled
Driving home we didn’t speak
only holding hands
with the radio on some
soft rock
we walked to you door
your hand still placed in mine
I bent down meeting you half way
coming the other fifty
your lips pressed against mine
kissing you until your
father opened the door
breaking the moment
giving me the
nobody touches my little girl
stare
You had to go but before you
closed the door
you looked back at me one
last time
mouthing I love you
I love you too
the idyllic end to a perfect night
I’ll look forward
to the next time
when we dance
