Tears In The Rain

Lord in heaven, I beseech thee;
Lift this curse from my heart.
My true love doth love another,
‘Twas she who chose to part.

I have remained lost and alone,
For nigh these many years.
And though I walk amongst the throng,
They cannot see my tears.

Amid the clamor of despair,
Can any hear my pain?
Tears of a single broken heart,
Are as tears in the rain.

Have mercy Lord, upon my soul,
Or let it now depart.
I cannot live another day
With shackles on my heart.

For if true love comes only once,
What shall become of me?
How can I face the coming years
With naught but memories?

Should my plea find no sympathy,
These words will be in vain;
If poems penned by broken hearts,
Are like tears in the rain.

But Lord, thou art the only one
Who knows what I have borne.
The burden of this broken heart
Hath left my soul forlorn.

Thus I shall beg of thee each night,
Until my final breath;
That in thy mercy, thou wouldst grant
My boon of love, or death.

But if thy blessings touch my soul,
Will I see past this pain?
Or have thy answered prayers become
Like tears lost in the rain?

High on the 'Best Poems' List.

I don't know how you come up with such a beautiful technique in expressing a kind of heart-ache that I'm too familiar with.
Next to the last stanza reminds me of a prayer I once said. (a long time ago)
