Abraham Lincoln was the very one.
In the year of 1861.
While at war word had come.
"A soldier in blue slept through his watch.
And unless forgiven would soon be shot."
Nonsense! He said. I know this lad.
To kill this boy would most sad.
I'm sure he fought from dawn to dusk.
The sleep he took God knew he must.
Forgiveness granted! Go stop this act.
Their's been enough death.
His honor's intact.
Compassion and wisdom was Lincolns forte.
Kept our nation united and freed all the slaves.
