Early Morning Earthquake
19 April, 2008
author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)
Pacing back and forth my dogs drove me crazy
Keeping me half awake with their feet tick ticking
Not much like them during the night
They aggravated me so much I nearly turned on the light
Something was bothering them
Something unseen
As they pacing got more frantic
I wanted to scream
I tried to ignore them as best I could
Tick tick tick tick ticking over and over again
First one way and then the other
Pillow over my head, the sound I tried to smother
Suddenly woken up I was a little bit shaken
My heavy bed was trembling and moving about
Did they have to lean on the bed while scratching
The dogs are driving me crazy I was about to shout
Then I realized what was going on
It wasn't the dogs scratching that was shaking my bed
It was the earth quaking rattling me around
This was really strange and very profound
Finally the dogs and the bed both settled down
What a way to wake up; wondering if it was real
Was the earth really shaking or was it a dream
Guess even the earth had to blow off a little steam
------- Author's Notes -------
This morning at 4:35 am I was awoken by a 5.2 earthquake shaking the world. My dogs knew it at least a half hour before it happened. I wish I had been more awake at the time.. other people in the area said they could even hear it rumbling. There was no damage here, just a life experience. |
