Standing Alone
16 December, 2002
Author: Dino Hi
Standing on top of this pyramid alive
Standing alone, a generation spreading far and wide
As generations upon generations before me
Now it's come, the oldest on top of a tree
I stand on top, the branches of this generation
The cycle of life, it's linking chain, in extention
That linking chain of life, now I'm at it's end
The road has been long, many forks and dead end
For I take the place of my parents, as they did theirs
Journey over vast ocean, making roots with hands that wears
The blood in my vains, run in those below
The genes of my life, is seen in their toe
You've got Mom's, I've got Dad's, so glad
The lines on my hands, match my Dad
Now I stand alone, all is gone before me
Only memories, plaques and headstones to see
Before I go, I no longer want to be grand, but great
To see great-grandchildren, must wait
One more added generation below me
Spreading far and wide, from sea to sea
Then I'll face that door, through tunnel of eternal light
Standing alone, I'll know when it's right

Sometimes felt like tracing mine back to see what I could find. `Facing that door, through the tunnel of eternal light' continuing what we were talking about last week... very deep thinking...good poem..Thanks! |
