When It's Just Father And Sons
2 October, 2002
Author: Dino Hi
Flying the desert race,
with hundreds, at top speed over rocks and sage brush
What am I doing? Are you crazy facing death,
and getting an adrenaline rush
Just the opposite, not living to race,
but racing to live
Even though old, to be apart of,
and seeing what you can give
A time to be with friends,
and a son that came from far,
that you only see once a year
When dad and son come together,
It's a reunion, and maybe have a beer
Racing with your son, dicing it out,
and seeing his smiles and fear
Cherish memories, even crashes and broken parts,
and laughter I'll hold so dear
Using every ounce of skill,
fighting mental and internal pain,
how to prevail over this adversity
Just want to finish, doing my best,
seeing a hawk to inspire my uncertainty
But through it all, adding new memories,
when it's just father and son
Something, I've never done with my dad,
and it doesn't matter who won
Looking forward to doing it again, in another year,
maybe this time with stepson and grandson
When it's just father and sons
