One Man's Dream
11 January, 2001
Author: Doc Rogers
Down in the glade, the sunlight spears in,
Lighting a patch here and there.
Spider webs dance and weave in the breeze,
And the timberwolf waits in her lair.
Nature is building the first winter storm,
As pine cones fall to the ground.
And bats settle in for a long, cold sleep,
While maple leaves fly all around.
It soon will be time to bring in the wood,
To fuel the long winter's fire,
To close all the shutters and cordon the pond,
And break out our winter attire.
The snow will come soon, and life will slow down,
And nature will force us inside.
And that's where I like it, next to the fire,
With the lady I love by my side.
Please stay with me, dear ... all winter long.
Bring me joy every day with your charms.
Keep me smiling at daybreak and warm in the night,
And I'll keep you safe in my arms.
Through the long winter, our passion will grow,
As snow falls gently outside.
And we will be happy, snuggled together,
By the fireplace, side-by-side.
Telling our stories, learned in youth,
Laughing at each other's small trials.
And marvelling at the adults we've become,
After travelling so many miles.
But suddenly robins begin to sing,
And the sun sets later each eve.
And feeling so sad, we begin to pack,
But we really don't want to leave.
Now we must go ... back to the city.
It really is ending too soon.
But for the rest of my life, I will
Always cherish ... our winter honeymoon.
