Sunlight On Frosted Glass
31 December, 2008
Author: Pondering Red
It's New Years
in Australia right now.
Here,
where I sit
in reflection,
the windows are frosted white,
bright with winter sun striking the glass.
Bombs are falling over Gaza.
I wash the floors to
start the new year with a clean house,
a clear mind.
My plans are simple for today,
yet I have several.
I feel contentment, I think,
mixed with some anxieties.
It has been a vicious week of bad weather,
ice over sidewalks,
people walking slowly on streets,
puddles and city ponds and slush and salt.
Athens is burning.
In this long moment of time,
just before the stroke of midnight,
in my time zone,
I seem to regain a sense of peace,
as if a long soft cord is unraveling
and traveling throughout and around
this world,
this beautiful earth,
troubled, scarred,
devastated
and lovely.
I have the door open.
I feel the warmth of this afternoon.
I await the last sunset
of this most interesting and
profound year of experiences
and personal revelations.
For now,
I just revel in the feeling
of happy thoughts that enter my being.
Happy New Year !
