Guess That's The Way It's Gonna Be

Author: Shiloh
Been walking down this old road
for as long as I can remember.
Been putting one foot in front of the other
so long now that I can't think of anything else.
Don't know what I might be walking for,
don't know what I might be looking for,
don't know why I don't just step off this road
and go rest my feet in the creek over there...
It looks so cool and refreshing, soothing...
and the shade tree there on the side
looks mighty inviting, too,
with the leaves overhead moving gently in the breeze...
Bet that I could just lean back,
close my eyes,
and drift off to a peaceful, dreamless sleep
without any trouble at all,
if I just stepped off this old road I've been walking,
if I just walked over to that creek over there...
But I don't know if I'm ready yet.
Don't know what I'd do if I just sat down there,
got nothing in mind if I was to do that...
Because I don't know if I have some other reason for walking
that I just haven't figured out yet,
that I just don't understand now...
All I know is that I've been walking down this old road
for as long as I can remember,
and I guess that's the way it's gonna be,
'cause I don't have any other ideas,
'cause I don't have any other notions,
'cause I don't have any other thoughts,
and this is all I've ever known to do...
Just keep on walkin'...
until I can't remember any more.
Guess that's the way it's gonna be.

Taking a break by a creek is sometimes a good time for pondering life's secrets. Travel onward and enjoy the view. And don't forget to stop and smell the roses along the way. I like the way this piece conveys the thought of traveling through life's journey, sometimes without rhyme or reason. Good write |
