Farewell: Poems 1 To 5
18 February, 2009
Author: Colin Stewart
She wore my favourite dress today
and although words cannot convey
this memory of her will always stay
of the final place where she lay.
--
The pendulum stopped and time stood still.
This moment forever would leave a chill
as I let her hand go and looked up instead
when the Enola Gay flew overhead.
--
The blues wipe away their silly grin
with the revelation of guilt and sin
because those who deny can never win.
The saints will not be marching in!
--
The claustrophobia of this place.
The bittersweet kiss and last embrace
to soon disappear without a trace
when Eva Bruan saw his face.
--
Two passengers wait for the end of the line
but the chauffeur keeps driving and can only pine
for a couple who listen to the whippoorwill cry
as Hank's weary head rests on Lady Di.
