Famous Women: Poems 1 To 5
27 February, 2009
Author: Colin Stewart
Tied to this stake she was all alone.
As the flames grew higher there was a bitter moan:
"This shall be forever my last ringtone
for Joan of Arc and her cellphone!"
--
Venus de Milo as you can see
was unable to put her arms around me
but my love is merciful and always bold
even though her lips are cold.
--
It's a defiant gesture if you continue to stare
at the model on the catwalk with snakes in her hair
but they didn't have the tact to leave Medusa alone
and the fashion cognoscenti have turned to stone!
--
A point of reference is still not clear
for this artistic vision without peer
but hysteria is what we've come to fear
when the Virgin Mary made her arrival here!
--
Esmeralda was shy but it was easy to tell
the potency of an aphrodisiac offered a powerful spell
and in their tower of love she rang his bell
before the clumsy hunchback slipped and fell!
