Two days after I had a routine blood test, my doctor phoned me and asked me to come in to his office as soon as I could. Naturally I asked him why. He said "I can’t tell you over the phone, you had better come in to the office and see me."

It only took me about an hour to turn off my computer and get dressed to be on my way to his office. As I was driving I was thinking terrible thoughts, like what if I had cancer or some other dreadful disease. When I told the nurse that the doctor had phoned me and told me to come in as soon as possible, even though the waiting room was crowded, she brought me directly into the doctors office and asked me to sit down. She said, "the doctor will be with you right away."

I don't think I waited five minutes until the doctor came in. As he sat in his chair behind his desk, I noticed his gray eyebrows were positioned in a concerned position.

"Is it bad news doc."

He said "you want me to give it to you straight?"

"Shoot doc. I can take it."

When he told me I had cancer of the brain. I broke down and cried. In between my sobs I asked him how long I have to live. "Two weeks at the most" he said. I jumped up from the chair and as I was running out of the door. The doctor asked me, "where are you going?"

"To tell my family good-bye" I answered as the door shut behind me.
