Good Gigs And Bad Gigs: 5 Poems
13 July, 2009
Author: Colin Stewart
They had a monster hit in 1965
back when the lads were still alive
and for a reunion gig they would somehow revive
their return from the dead and a will to survive!
--
With a string of bad luck and recurring clues
this blueprint of harmony offers startling news
as you deal with regret and channel the blues.
When the in-laws come over you're bound to lose!
--
"Retrieve the black book before it's too late
because secrets inside could incriminate
and inflame unwanted political debate"
so they opened up a can of worms at Watergate!
--
It was a sound that went by a different name.
The spirit to improvise was just the same
but the bordello piano would vanish with time
when a new music called Jazz came into its prime!
--
The nocturnal silence has now been cheated.
Bad habits die hard and are often repeated
when talking in his sleep he remains undefeated
without any expletive to be yet deleted!
