Tyronne

Author: Catyrose
I’ll never forget those puppy dog eyes
They clutched this lonesome heart of mine
Those eyes spoke volumes or so it would seem
As I held you close and you became a part of my daughter’s dream
She had asked for a puppy for forever and ever
I finally gave in to her request
And we decided on you because by far you “were the best”
We took you home and you held on tight
She held you in her arms for an entire day
To chase your blues and fears away
You became a part of us
Always there to greet us at the end of a busy day
Your fan-tale wagging chased my cares away
For years you snuggled right next to me
Then one day your legs gave out a bit
And shortly after you’d fall over as if in a fit
A stroke you survived
Refusing to leave my side
Your loyalty and undying devotion sustained me through the hardest of times
You’re paws would encircle my neck as you held me close and licked my tears away
Oh precious puppy I’d give my all to go back to those days
Yet somehow age crept up on you
You laid around the house
Trapped in a body that simply wouldn’t do
Your eyes and ears no longer keen
Your legs refusing to support your dwindling frame
Wimpers and cries you’d utter in the night
Not able to tell me about your plight
Today I made a decision out of love
I sent you off to the heavens above
My hope is that as I pen this note
You are running and jumping as you once did
Look out for your Pa Pa he is probably near by
Do you hear his call?
"Where’s my baby man"?
Run to him and comfort him as you once did me
I loved you so much Tyronne, I had no other choice but to set you free
------- Author's Notes -------
I had to put my precious Tyronne down to day. He was my best friend for 18 years. |
