Unwed Widow
24 September, 2009
Author: Leah06
My future is in a box
Marked by plaque and dirt mound
I want to scream and blame someone
Instead I weep without sound.
I have a flag in a frame
The tags from around his neck
Everyone stops to stare at me
And whisper about the wreck.
I didn't go off to the sandbox
I didn't fight in a war
But half of me is over there
And it's rotting me from the core.
The truth is, I am damaged
Though hidden and unspoken
My head held high and walking tall
But inside I am broken.
I've been through a tragedy
Left a widow before wed
Sent off my brave soldier
Who came back fallen, hero dead.
------- Author's Notes -------
Through personal experience and the stories of others, I wrote this. To every spouse, family member, and loved one of someone who has lost their Hero, I hope this somehow resonates within you. I am sorry for your loss. Keep your head up, and know that the people who fight in our Military are our heroes, support them or stand in front of them. |
