The Trophy Case
18 October, 2009
Author: Mark Spencer
She can't escape her broken heart,
She feels the ache again.
She gave him everything she had,
It's how she loves her men.
But she's had many broken hearts
She keeps them on a shelf.
Though her love for him was boundless,
She never loved herself.
And that is why her trophy case
Is filled with so much pain.
And why, with every broken heart,
Her tears fall down like rain.
She seeks a man who cannot live
Without a guiding light.
A ship escorted through the storm,
And rescued from the night.
How grateful would that vessel be,
Delivered from its fate?
To not be cast into the sea,
Dragged down by it's own weight.
Should it not recognize the truth,
How else could it survive?
If her light had not pierced the dark,
He might not be alive.
She has shown him that he needs her,
Like a hand needs a glove,
And for a while she is convinced,
That he returns her love.
But need and love are not the same,
For need can disappear.
While love can shatter any heart,
With just a single tear.
She must trust that she is worthy
To feel true love's embrace.
That a man could see her beauty,
Just looking at her face.
For if she bring her heart to bare,
And casts off her facade,
Perhaps he'll see the grace within
A soul designed by God.
This is the road to happiness,
It's where she'll find her place.
Where no more broken hearts adorn,
Her lonely trophy case.
