We Do What We've Got To Do
10 November, 2009
Author: Mark Spencer
I started early this morning,
When I got out of bed.
I filled a glass with scotch whiskey
And washed the fog from my head.
I showered and I suited up,
My day begins at dawn.
I combed my hair and brushed my teeth,
And I put my game face on.
We do what we've got to do,
Say what we've got to say!
We do what we've got to do,
To get us through the day!
The weekend comes, I'm off again,
Searching for my soul.
I lost it somewhere down the road,
When I was following my goal.
And I pretend I'm someone else,
The man I thought I'd be,
Back when I was a little boy;
My life still in front of me.
We do what we've got to do,
Say what we've got to say!
We do what we've got to do,
To get us through the day!
And I've been carrying the world,
On shoulders made of clay.
I've got so much on my mind,
I'm just trying to find my way.
We do what we've got to do,
Say what we've got to say!
We do what we've got to do,
To get us through the day!!
When you want what's best for you...
You do what you've got to do.
