Phantoms Of The Afterhours: 5 Poems
12 November, 2009
Author: Colin Stewart
Chopin approached his piano in a brand new way
as he looked at Louis Armstrong and began to play
moved by a music he'd never heard before
in a club which has opened more than one door!
---
Sid Vicious just seems out of place
in his paltry effort to slap that bass
and keep the reverence of a straight face
while Tiny Tim sings Amazing Grace!
---
Mahalia Jackson delivered a hymn
as she looked to the king and thought of him.
Together they would testify and gladly rejoice
when Elvis regained the power of his golden voice!
---
When my baby left me in an unholy mess
I reached for the bottle and its caress
by driving my truck into the local bar
and wearing this sad song like an eternal scar!
---
The Pied Piper promoted this devious scheme
perfecting the aesthetics behind an advertiser's dream
by exploiting our youth and have them believe
that once you enter puberty you may never leave!
