World Peace
11 February, 2010
Author: Mark Spencer
Many have spoken of world peace,
As if it were a choice.
An age when everyone is free,
And we all have a voice.
In that place all life is valued,
And all opinions heard.
Every person is respected,
And trusted at their word.
The beautiful will hold no sway,
Over their counterpart.
The wealthy will not trump the poor,
Our worth comes from the heart.
Indeed that world is paradise,
But it will never be.
It's just a dream embraced by those,
Who are too blind to see.
We lay the blame at other feet,
And say it is their fault.
We claim if we were rid of them,
Hostilities would halt.
Eliminate the war mongers,
The murderers and thieves.
We'll kill off those who don't agree
With what this judge believes.
If populations were decreased,
And resources were shared,
Then all would have an equal cut,
And peace would be declared.
At least, that's what some postulate,
They say most won't survive.
While those who make such claims will be
Among those left alive.
Still others say we've but to choose
To live as God intends.
To love our neighbors as ourselves,
And be each other's friends.
But man is not the kind of beast
To lay down in the grass.
His race has too much self esteem
To form a peaceful class.
If I believe something is wrong,
But you believe its right.
Should we not find some middle ground,
It might become a fight.
And when that fight comes to an end,
What will the outcome be?
If I have won our little clash,
Will you agree with me?
We'll still believe what we believe,
Spurning the other side.
Resolve is strengthened by conceit,
And fortified by pride.
So look no further than yourself
When you play blame police.
If peace does not exist in us,
We can't have world peace...
