Throw Away People
31 March, 2010
Author: Mark Spencer
I have known throw away people,
All the days of my life.
They are my friends and family,
My children and my wife.
You pass them on the street each day,
They're in your work place too,
They're nearly everyone you know,
And they are also you.
We send them off to fight our wars,
And give their lives for "peace".
They pave our streets, and fight our fires,
We use them to police.
Each of us is expendable,
True worth does not apply.
The folks who run the world don't care,
Whether we live or die.
To them we're human resources,
Just nameless, faceless tools.
They let us think our lives have worth,
Then call us worthless fools.
Their game of chess affects the world,
That is the stage they're on.
They are the knights, bishops, and kings,
While we are only pawns.
And our indifference made it so,
We turned our eyes away.
While we were tending to ourselves,
We let them win the day.
And we were led away like sheep,
To their cities and towns.
Where we all simply disappeared,
Without making a sound.
If you keep cattle warm and fed,
They're quiet as a mouse.
Such comforts make them think they're safe,
While in your slaughterhouse.
And you and I are just like them,
Content with what we've got.
So full of what we THINK we are,
We can't see what we're not.
But we are throw away people,
Just fodder for the rich.
A fate, indifference led us to.
Now isn't that a bitch?

Wess (66.158.178.182) -- Monday, April 5 2010, 11:43 pm I knew this. I guess I've always known this. But the concept is so unpleasant that I locked it up, somewhere in the darkest dungeon of my mind. I suppose that makes me just like the cattle in that slaughterhouse. You're right though, ignoring the problem has only allowed the powers that be to tighten the noose around our necks more and more. The problem is, people won't do a damn thing about it, until the folks in charge bring the fight directly to them. Excellent poem. Wess |
