Had I Known

Had I known it was our last night together
I would never have taken your presence for granted
I would have held you oh so close
Laying my head upon your chest
Listening to the rhythm of your heart
Holding fast to that memory for all time
I would have kissed you with more passion, leaving you breathless
Feeling the moistness of your lips and tongue
As they probed ever so deeply as if to touch my very soul
I would have sensed the urgency
Guiding you again and again into the fiber of my being
Merging "us" into “the one” that we were destined to be
Touching, caressing, every inch of your body, pressing you closer and closer,
Until it was impossible to determine where one began and the other ended
I would have spoken the words you longed to hear, fulfilled every wish, left no desire unsatisfied
Had I known, had I only known
