Gluttony

Gluttony is an empty pit,
Impossible to fill.
An insatiable rumbling,
That only faith can still.

It consumes everything it sees,
Devours all it can,
To some degree, it dwells within
The heart of every man.

We eat, and eat, and eat again,
Until we're overweight.
And then we try to pass the blame,
To help explain our fate.

But food is not the only thing
Humanity consumes.
Our forests and our seven seas,
Will soon become our tombs.

We're measured by the things we own,
Our toys, and properties;
We foolishly define our worth,
By earthly luxuries.

That's why the have's, and the have not's
Do battle for this prize.
The winner is the one who has
The most toys when he dies.

For man is such a noble race...
Please forgive my humor.
His gluttony is not unlike
A malignant tumor.

And if that's true, let all beware,
For he will never cease,
Consuming all the earth provides,
With no regard for peace.

Until we curb our appetite,
This is our destiny;
To fill a pit that can't be filled...
The ache of gluttony.

A malignant tumor!

You're preaching to the choir Mark. But I doubt there's many others listening.

The age of overindulgence.

We eat too much, drink too much, and party too much. Our gluttony is epic. Great poem!
